COMPUTER SKILLS:
- The Access database is the program most often used in the Arizona State
University museum system for archiving and I have become very versatile in its use.
- I use Excel spreadsheet extensively for tasks as varied as tracking collections
that are being displayed to payroll.
- Outlook Express is used extensively for mail and for maintenance of contact
files that have thousands of entries.
- I am very familiar with PowerPoint and am versatile in presentation creation
in this program.
- MapInfo is a special program used to find identifying information, such as
latitude and longitude, tax information, and ownership information, about parcels of land.
- Microsoft Word is the program I use most often for word processing and I am
very familiar with most of its properties. I can use Microsoft Works as well, but do not like it as much.
PEOPLE SKILLS:
- Patience: I have learned that patience can go a long way toward reaching a
satisfactory conclusion to any problem. In fact, a little patience probably shortens the process as I tend to get to the heart
of the situation by asking questions.
- Perserverance: I have found that things aren't always where they should be--especially
in the museum archives--but they are always somewhere. If I perservere I am likely to find that piece of information
that will make sense of everything else.
- Curiosity: I have learned that people trust me more
because they believe I am interested in the same things they are. And, actually, that is almost universally true. I find people's
interests fascinating, which is one of the reasons I am interested in history, psychology, and in pursuing museum studies.
