My areas of concentration are history and psychology. The Department of
History at Arizona State University stresses that history is more than a story of people and events in the past. History teaches
us to ask questions about why things happened, about the context of the times, and how are those events significant today.
To find answers to these questions, ASU teaches historians to look at many diverse conditions, including economic and political
systems, religious beliefs and scientific achievements, fine arts and great ideas. The curriculum requires that students record,
analyze, and interpret incidents, artifacts, and relationships to derive a holistic understanding of the past. ASU prepares
the history major to better understand human societies and world events. It also equips the student with the analytical and
writing skills necessary to enter various professions or to continue her education at the graduate level.
The Psychology Department's mission is to pursue cutting edge psychological research and involves students at all levels of
the University. The idea is to expose students to an intensive learning experiences within the discipline. Psychology faculty
and students are actively involved with a number of centers, institutes, and research groups on campus that promote transdisciplinary
approaches to issues of local and national significance, affording outstanding research and training experiences that extend
beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. This philosophy makes the psychology concentration a good fit with the BIS philosophy.
